Functional medicines
Where ancient wisdom meets modern science.
At Pivot Acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Medicine has always been the foundation of how we practice. And at the heart of TCM is something we have never wavered from: treating the whole person, not just the symptom. Our Integrative Functional Medicine offering builds on that foundation — bridging the timeless philosophy of TCM with the precision of modern diagnostic science to create a truly complete picture of your health.

Is this right for you?
This is not a surface-level evaluation. It is thorough, personalized, and designed to go deeper than a standard appointment ever could. You may be a good fit if you are navigating:
⬖ Health goals that conventional approaches have not fully supported
⬖ Hormonal imbalances or reproductive health concerns
⬖ A desire to understand your body at a deeper level — proactively
⬖ Unexplained fatigue, brain fog, or mood changes
⬖ Chronic inflammation or recurring pain
⬖ Digestive dysfunction or gut health issues
⬖ Metabolic concerns, blood sugar irregularities, or weight resistance
What to expect — step by step.
Integrative Functional Medicine is a process, not a single appointment. Here is how it works at Pivot Acupuncture:
Step 1 — Schedule your initial appointment
Reach out to our office to schedule your Integrative Functional Medicine intake. This dedicated appointment is the starting point for everything that follows.
Step 2 — In-depth health history intake
Dr. Shawne takes the time to understand your full health history, your current concerns, your lifestyle, and your goals. We listen closely — nothing you share is treated as irrelevant, because in this framework, everything connects.
Step 3 — Comprehensive lab panel
Based on your intake, Dr. Shawne determines the most appropriate lab panel for your individual health picture and submits the request on your behalf. The panel is tailored to you — not a one-size-fits-all order. Visit our FAQ section below for details on how labs are drawn and processed.
Step 4 — Results review & customized treatment plan
Once your results are received, you return for a dedicated follow-up appointment with Dr. Shawne. She walks you through what the labs reveal, how they connect to your TCM diagnosis and health patterns, and what it all means for you. From that conversation, a fully personalized treatment plan is built.
Your treatment plan — tailored to you.
No two plans look the same. Dr. Shawne draws from a wide range of tools and modalities to build the approach that fits your unique picture. Your plan may include any combination of:
⬖ Acupuncture - Restore flow, reduce inflammation
⬖ Chinese Herbal Medicine - Targeted botanical formulas
⬖ Targeted Nutrition - Food as medicine, personalized
⬖ Lifestyle Modifications - Sleep, stress, movement
⬖ Ozone Therapy - Cellular and immune support
⬖ Frequency Specific Microcurrent - Tissue repair and pain relief
This is medicine that adapts to you — not a protocol pulled off a shelf. As your results shift and your health evolves, so does the plan.

Frequently Asked Questions
Have questions about the process? We have answered the most common ones below.
-
We submit our lab requests through LabCorp. Once your order is placed, you will receive instructions for scheduling your draw at a LabCorp draw center convenient to you.
-
At this time we are not set up to send requests directly to hospitals. We work exclusively through our preferred lab partner to ensure consistency and accuracy across all panels.
-
We do prefer that all labs be completed together through our preferred lab partner so we have a full and consistent picture to work from. That said, we are sometimes able to incorporate recent labs if they were completed within the last month. If any tests are missing, we will request that you complete those through our recommended draw center so we can build the most complete functional medicine plan possible for you.
-
Not always. Depending on what Dr. Shawne is able to learn about your health history during your intake, some labs may include at-home saliva or stool tests in addition to — or in place of — a traditional blood draw. Dr. Shawne will walk you through exactly what is needed once your panel has been determined.
-
Lab fees are not billed through insurance by our office. You are welcome to submit your receipts directly to your insurance provider to request reimbursement on your own. You may also use your FSA or HSA funds to cover the cost of labs as well as your Functional Medicine Consultation with Dr. Shawne.
